A rare find for serious collectors of early Americana: an authentic, documented Lambert Hitchcock harvest-style side table, manufactured between 1825 and 1832 in the historic village of Hitchcocks-ville, Connecticut.

This exceptional piece features Hitchcock's legendary multi-color signature stencil on the back rail: “L. HITCHCOCK. HITCHCOCKS-VILLE. CONN. WARRANTED.” Because the letters "N" are in the correct forward position, this identifies the table as a coveted pre-1832 first-production run artifact, preceding his corporate restructuring.

Built out of robust native hardwoods with a rich maple or light-toned walnut face, the table highlights clean federal-era tapered legs and a beautifully preserved gold-leaf botanical cornucopia/leaf stencil across the integrated rear gallery backsplash. A single center drawer provides functional utility, complete with its original structural hardware fittings.
  • Artisan: Lambert Hitchcock (Signed/Warranted Stencil)
  • Exact Era: 1825 – 1832 (Federal / Early American Period)
  • Provenance: Handcrafted in Connecticut, USA
  • Condition: Exceptional museum-quality antique condition. Stencil markings remain bold, highly legible, and beautifully preserved with magnificent authentic wood aging.

📜 CERTIFICATE OF HISTORICAL PROVENANCE & AUTHENTICITY

Item Classification: Authentic Early American Case Furniture
Artisan / Maker: Lambert Hitchcock
Manufacturing Location: Hitchcocks-ville (Barkhamsted), Connecticut, USA
Production Era: 1825 – 1832 (Federal / Pre-Jacksonian Era)
Verification & Documented Markings:
This piece carries the authentic, original hand-stenciled signature mark on the rear gallery rail:
“L. HITCHCOCK. HITCHCOCKS-VILLE. CONN. WARRANTED.”

Diagnostic Chronology Report:
  • First-Period Verification: The maker's mark features traditional, forward-facing letters "N" in the abbreviations for Connecticut and Warranted. This typographic sequence conclusively dates the construction of this table to the first production window (1825–1832), prior to the factory's corporate restructuring into "Hitchcock, Alford & Co." in 1832 (where the iconic backward "N" error was introduced).
  • Material Integrity: Constructed utilizing native early American hardwoods featuring classic hand-cut joinery. The upper backsplash retains its original gold-leaf stenciled botanical cornucopia motifs, applied utilizing the traditional historic dusting method over a natural dark varnish.
Guaranteed Status:
This item is fully guaranteed to be an authentic, pre-1832 antique manufactured during Lambert Hitchcock's lifetime. It is not a mid-20th-century reproduction or revival piece. A digital archive copy of this diagnostic provenance report will be transferred to the buyer upon completion of sale.
