Byzantine Painting - Magdalena

Tadeusz Kuduk's work “Magdalena,” is in line with his spiritual series "Z cyklu Wiara"  His abstract image of Mary Magdalene focus on themes of penance, using bold contrasts of blues, deep crimson and ochre. This fusion of tradition and modernity defines his unique artistic vision. 

Born in 1935 in Trzebuska, Poland, Kuduk is a distinguished contemporary painter and draftsman. Educated at the State Higher School of Theatre in Warsaw, Kuduk’s work merges modern techniques with the spiritual depth and formal qualities of classical Byzantine art. His sacral paintings are characterized by frontal compositions, strong structural elements, and an emotional solemnity that echoes ancient traditions.

Using mixed media—including watercolors, oil, and gouache on paper or carton—he masterfully recreates the luminous, layered textures of gold-leaf mosaics. His style draws inspiration from early 20th-century modernist movements such as Cubism, stained glass artistry, and spiritual avant-garde iconography.

Kuduk’s pieces move beyond conventional portraiture to offer highly stylized, symbolic depictions of femininity, often named after muses or Christian and Byzantine saints.
