This French jam pot from around 1900 exemplifies traditional rural stoneware pottery used for preserving jams, conserves, and seasonal fruits. It reflects longstanding ceramic craftsmanship practiced across France for food storage and preservation.

The pot’s handmade stoneware body is coated with a tan-colored glaze showing natural aging signs like darkened rim edges and speckled surface variations typical of ceramics from that period. Distinct potter’s rings and organic imperfections confirm its artisanal origin. Its cylindrical shape includes the classic rolled rim, a hallmark of French preserve pots, while the thick stoneware walls offered effective insulation to keep contents fresh. This piece is a fine example of functional yet beautiful pottery from early 20th-century rural France.

Perfect for jams, mustards, sugar or other condiments on your table or buffet.  We have included a sweet sterling silver spoon to complete your set.
